Botox & Fillers: Myths vs. Facts
There is a lot of misinformation surrounding injectables. We separate the myths from the facts so you can make an informed decision about non-surgical anti-ageing treatments.
Why Injectables Are Misunderstood
Botox and dermal fillers are among the most commonly performed aesthetic procedures globally, yet they remain surrounded by myths — largely driven by examples of over-treatment or poorly administered procedures.
When performed by qualified medical professionals using appropriate doses and techniques, injectables produce natural, harmonious results that enhance rather than alter your appearance.
Myth 1: Botox Will Make You Look Frozen
Fact: A frozen, expressionless face is the result of too much product or incorrect placement — not an inherent outcome of Botox. Botulinum toxin, when properly dosed and placed, softens dynamic lines while preserving natural facial movement.
The goal of treatment at Elements Aesthetics is always a refreshed, natural look. We use conservative dosing and assess each patient's facial dynamics individually.
Myth 2: Fillers Are Permanent and Irreversible
Fact: Most dermal fillers used today are hyaluronic acid-based — a substance naturally found in the body. They are temporary (lasting 6–18 months depending on product and area) and fully reversible with an enzyme called hyaluronidase.
Permanent fillers do exist but are rarely recommended for facial use due to their higher risk profile. We do not use permanent fillers at Elements Aesthetics.
Myth 3: Injectables Are Extremely Painful
Fact: Botox involves very fine needles and is generally well tolerated without numbing. Filler injections may involve slightly more pressure, but topical numbing cream is applied beforehand, and most fillers contain lidocaine to further reduce discomfort during injection.
Patients frequently describe the sensation as milder than they expected.
Myth 4: Once You Start, You Can't Stop
Fact: There is no physiological dependency. If you stop treatment, the product wears off and the face returns to its pre-treatment state. Some patients choose to stop and experience no adverse effects.
The perception of needing to "keep going" is a personal choice, not a medical necessity.
Myth 5: Botox and Fillers Are the Same Thing
Fact: They are entirely different products. Botox (botulinum toxin) relaxes muscles to reduce dynamic wrinkles — lines that form from repeated facial expressions like frowning or squinting. Dermal fillers add volume and structure to areas that have lost fullness, such as the cheeks, lips, and under-eye hollows.
They are often used together in a complementary way, but they work through completely different mechanisms.
Choosing the Right Practitioner
The most important factor in safe, effective injectable treatment is the practitioner's training and aesthetic judgement. Always choose a qualified medical professional — a doctor or specialist trained in facial anatomy and injectable techniques.
During your consultation at Elements Aesthetics, Dr. Prachi will assess your concerns, discuss realistic outcomes, and design a treatment plan that is right for your face — never a one-size-fits-all approach.
